Vidya Balan have raised in Chembur, Mumbai, and hails from a Tamil-speaking family. Her father, P. R. Balan, is the Executive Vice-President of Digi cable, and her mother, Saraswathy Balan, is a homemaker. She has an elder sister named Priya Balan, who works in advertising.

Vidya Balan completed her schooling from St Anthony. Girls’ High School in Chembur. and later pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai. She also holds a Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Mumbai.


Vidya Balan made her acting debut with the Malayalam film. “Chakram” in 2003, but the film got shelved and was released later in 2006.
